When I teach kids yoga classes I spend a lot of time focusing on breath. I begin by giving them a straw and a small craft ball to blow across the room. Teaching them how to be aware of their breath while sliding on their bellies like a snake in cobra pose or upside down in downward dog pose.
Bringing awareness to their breath they are then able to self-calm in moments of anger and frustration. A skill learned in yoga class that will help them in their everyday lives.
