Bow Pose for Anxiety? You bet!

Bow Pose (Dhanurasana) is a great pose to do with kids (or adults) who have anxiety. The pose stretches the entire front body; the shoulders, chest and throat. Often times this is where we store tension or anxiety in our bodies.
Bow pose also strengthens the back muscles and improves posture.

Begin by laying on your belly. Bend the knees and draw your feet towards your bum, reach back with your hands and grab ahold of your ankles. Take a deep breath in and lift the chest and thighs off of the ground. Stay here for several breaths and then release.

The Bee Yoga Fusion YogaKids and I play a game where we get in bow pose and try and travel across the room while maintaining the posture. It's hard but a lot of fun too. Often times the kids end up cracking up in laughter as they see their friends rocking like boats slowly across the floor.
