Playful Yoga Workshop is back!!! We did this workshop a few times before the pandemic, and it was a blast. It’s time to have that kind of fun again in our lives. Join me for a vinyasa flow class where we will partner with other students to explore fun variations of yoga poses. Working together to have fun and build strength in traditional yoga poses; for example, a downward dog train, as seen in the picture. Get ready to laugh and enjoy yoga like never before!

Want to try minimalism on for size rather than fee Want to try minimalism on for size rather than feeling like you have to subscribe to a movement? An easy way to try minimalism is by conducting an experiment for a set amount of time and seeing what it feels like for you, how you respond to the challenge, and if it changes your habits in how you live your life. I believe that subscribing to a minimalist lifestyle is about being intentional.

Conducting these small experiments is a way to try an aspect of minimalism on for size, so to speak. It may inspire you to make more significant changes in your life and reevaluate how you are living. It can also allow you the space to evaluate how you spend your time, what you fill your home with, and who you enjoy being around. Making massive changes all at once is not a sustainable habit change, instead, small changes for a set amount of time gives you the opportunity to lean into the change and turn it into an intentional lifestyle.

I am building some mobility exercises for a privat I am building some mobility exercises for a private client and focusing on the full range of motion for the hips. 
Try this exercise at home in your kitchen! Stand on a thick book and bend in that base leg, and then take a folded washcloth and put it under your other foot. Hold on to your kitchen counter. Extend the washcloth leg in front, slide to the side, then slide to the back and go back the way you came. Focus on keeping your hips facing forward. 
This gets into the full range of motion of your hip and builds strength in your legs.

A student recently asked me how yoga teachers cont A student recently asked me how yoga teachers continue to be certified. I believe in transparency, and also I am a firm believer in the importance of continued education! 

Per Yoga Alliance, which is the governing body over yoga instructors, every three years to remain registered to teach yoga, you must complete and log the following:
45 hours of yoga teaching
30 hours of yoga-related training

So far, I've taught 6001.25 hours and completed 149.50 hours of yoga-related training in three years. It's okay to ask this question of your instructors! Take classes from people who continue to see the importance of learning to keep you moving safely.

Learn proper alignment in the poses to prevent lower back pain and shoulder strain. Being able to feel what is happening in your body while creating these shapes is grounding and powerful.

From October until now, I have been nursing an app From October until now, I have been nursing an appendix issue and I haven’t been able to exercise the way that I normally would. 

Instead, I have been eating my feelings: the worry, the anxiety, the stress. I knew what I was doing when I was doing it. All of my other vices are gone, and so I fell on the remaining and easy one- too much eating! (PS- I've been sober for ten and a half years.)

As a fitness and yoga instructor, I know that people look up to me as an example of healthy living. But rather than falling into the all too common self-deprecating behaviors. Or jumping into a new diet or cleanse. Instead, I bought a bigger size of clothing. Yes, I now own these same pants in two sizes.

This isn't a plea for "you look great" comments. Because I know I look great. I also know that an additional fifteen pounds doesn't define my worth. It doesn't diminish my value to my relationships, community, or clients. 
This post is to remind YOU of that.

Life happens! People get sick, and something stressful takes place that throws you off your plan of eating healthy and working out. And rather than diving headfirst into a marketing gimmick that promises fast results, instead, fall into a surrender of reframing it in your mind. It took me five months to put on fifteen pounds. It's going to take five months to take it off! Magic wand results only happen with a scalpel. Remember that!

So buy the next size up in clothing.
Feel confident in the body that you are toting around. Don't wait until you reach some magic number on the scale. That number doesn't represent who you are, nor is it truly motivating for lasting change. 

I hope this message reaches the person that needs to hear it. Give yourself grace! Eat more veggies, move your body more today than you did yesterday, and drink half of your weight in ounces of water. (If you weigh 150 lbs, drink 75 ounces of water a day) Ease into the changes that you know will make you healthier going forward. I believe in you!

I worry about how people latch on to the word- fai I worry about how people latch on to the word- failure. Trying, pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, and learning is not a failure!

When we set out to create habit change, failure isn't what we call trying, doing your best, and possibly changing your mind because what you thought would be a good idea turns out isn't possible for you to complete right now. That's okay! That is not failure. This is a readjustment to the goal. I want to help you focus back in on your goals, let’s connect!

Closing out the year is a time of reflection and a Closing out the year is a time of reflection and acceptance. It’s a time when we can ask ourselves, as we look back over the year, what is working and what did we skip this year that maybe proved to be worthwhile for our mental and emotional health. 

You don’t have to do this exactly on January first or any arbitrary date! You can do this exercise today. 

This simple prompt gets you focused on becoming a better version of yourself. You'll notice that it doesn't involve taking inventory of your finances or weight. Instead, let's move beyond that way of thinking and bring our attention to the mindset that matters in making change. 

Download the blank prompt in the blog post, print it and fill it out with your intentions going forward this year. Be sure to post it in an area of your house where you will see it often to remind you of your life goals. Letting go of the outside expectations we put on ourselves is hard to do, but I’m proud of you for seeing your worth.

Chelsea is back!!!! And she’s teaching tomorrow Chelsea is back!!!! And she’s teaching tomorrow Tuesday morning at 7:30am. Virtual class only! 

Chelsea's journey with yoga began over 15 years ago when she found herself struggling with anxiety and depression. She turned to yoga as a natural way to help ease her worries, reduce stress, and tame the ever-racing “monkey mind.” She strives to bring peace and relaxation into her students’ lives.

Chelsea is a certified 200hr RYT, lives in Media, PA, a suburb outside of Philadelphia, and teaches classes virtually for Bee Yoga Fusion. 

When she isn't on the yoga mat, Chelsea is caring for her preschool-aged son and new baby boy. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband and their extended family. She is an avid runner and is currently training for her first marathon.

For those that don't know, back in October, my app For those that don't know, back in October, my appendix ruptured, and I was hospitalized for a week. My colon and intestines were too inflamed to do surgery at that time, so I was treated with IV antibiotics. 

Long story short, I have been waiting for things to heal and to fit into the surgeon's very busy post-pandemic schedule. I received the call this past Friday from the surgeon, and she was able to schedule me into a cancellation appointment for this Monday- YESTERDAY - to have my appendix removed.

Prayer warriors please do your thing. 🙏💛🙏💛

UPDATE: surgery went well, they were able to do the laparoscopic as planned. I am home and resting. Still in a lot of pain and moving very slowly. Thank you for your kindness and compassion during this time.

If we are neglecting cleaning, tidying up, and living in a functional space, it can mean that we are neglecting to feel emotions as well. Beginning each day by living in a space that exudes feelings of happiness, calm, and peace allows you to go out into the world and interact with others by being in that emotional state. In this blog post is a real-life example from working with one of my life coaching clients. The continual problem of disorganization isn’t about buying a better storage system but instead looking at the emotions of why it is continuing to happen.

I’ve been conducting an experiment for myself th I’ve been conducting an experiment for myself this year, analyzing my relationship with shopping and clothing consumption. 

I had set the intention not to purchase any clothes in 2022, but as I took daily outfit pictures and posted them on Instagram @schockgretchen 
I didn't like what I saw reflected back to me on my grid. 

So rather than feeling like a failure or quitting, I adjusted my goal. Rather than having the mindset of NO instead, I became more mindful, as well as intentional, about the items I purchased.

I often see the same process in folks as they add a movement or meditation practice into their lives at the beginning of the year. One slip-up, one missed class, and suddenly they give up entirely. 

But what if you simply set the bar too high? And it needs adjusting to accommodate your life, your kid’s sports practice, or your spouse’s work travel?

Rather than four classes a week, what about consistently coming to two? And if you do more, that’s awesome! But adjust the goal to reflect back to you a successful outcome, not an upheaval of your life. 

I enjoy the reflection and the growth that pushing my personal boundaries exposes me to. But when adding a new habit, it’s important to also be realistic about your schedule and understanding how you will carve out the time to put that new habit into practice. This year I am focusing on continuing to track the number of times that I wore an item.
